Privy Council overturn murder conviction
Devon Hewey was jailed for life for the murder of Randy Robinson almost a decade ago, but has now had his conviction quashed after the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, Bermuda’s final appeal court, ruled that a judge gave improper directions about gunshot residue evidence (GSR).
Angela played a pivotal role in providing new evidence that assisted James Wood QC and Amanda Clift-Matthews, from Doughty Street Chambers, to expose the trial judge’s errors in the handling of the GSR evidence.
Mr Hewey’s case will now be remitted to the Court of Appeal in Bermunda to decide if a re-trial is appropriate.
