Disguised Firearms

Section 5(1A)(a) of the Firearms Act 1968 sets down a minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment for possession of a firearm disguised as another object. Relatively recently this has been taken as including stun guns which look like other objects, however such a policy does not appear to be applied uniformly across the UK and does not take into account the potential for design evolution. A thorough grasp of firearm design, primary legislation, relevant case law, Home Office interpretation and the development of the law is required when such cases come before the courts.
